The Little German Town

Helen,Georgia
It's the charm of Bavaria, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

That little statement couldn't be more true.
Helen is a charming little town with German touches everywhere you go.
We love visiting this town - in fact, we stayed there the night we got married and explored the town the next day as a newly married couple, complete with lunch on the river. Even before Cody and I tied the knot, Helen was one of those places we often ventured to as a little getaway. Its a fun walk and hitting the touristy shops always makes for a good time. Plus, the river is beautiful and fun to tube down in the summer.

But really, our favorite part about Helen isn't necessarily downtown, but up a nearby mountain, along the river where Cody and I have made a lot of memories. We used to ride his jeep up the mountain when we first started dating, hanging out by the river. We took a picnic to the top and announced our pregnancy via social media on our one year anniversary. And although our little announcement is now almost two years old, and a ball of energy who loves to be outside as much as possible, we still hadn't taken her to this fun little town that Cody and I are pretty fond of.

So on Fall Break, we decided to hit the road for a day in Helen with our Harper girl in tow.
We made sure to eat at the same restaurant we ate at the day after we got married, and scored a table right by the river for Harper to enjoy. We let her walk the gardens and sidewalks. She especially loved the chocolate stores, and got to try some pumpkin fudge. Since it was pretty warm for a fall day, she got to enjoy an ice cream cone for only the second time ever. And this time, didn't try to eat it from the bottom up. And to top it off, we headed up the mountain, parked by the river, and let her have a little fun before heading home. She's a daddy's girl through and through, and for every rock her dad skipped down the river, Harper had to do the exact same - except hers were more of a plop than a skip. :)

We had a wonderful afternoon just the three of us and totally soaked in every moment.
